Books Of The Bible Outlines

Genesis means “origin.” The book records the origin of many things including the universe, man, sin, and redemption. It is a most fitting book to start the Bible.

Genesis (1-3)

Genesis 1Creation. Most appropriately creation is the subject for the first chapter of the Bible. Three important things about God are seen in this creation record. •Presence of God: evolution excludes God from creation, but the Bible emphasizes God, for 25 times “God” is mentioned in this first chapter. •Power of God: the power of God is certainly demonstrated in creation. The power of God’s Word is especially demonstrated in creation by the fact that God simply spoke the universe into being. “God said” is found 10 times in this chapter regarding creation. •Plan of God: God’s wisdom is seen in God’s plan of creation. On the first day came light; the second day the firmament; the third day water, land, and vegetation; the fourth day lights (sun, moon, and stars); the fifth day fish and fowl; and on the sixth day beast and man. Any other order of creation would have been a disaster.

Genesis 2Care. God’s care for men is demonstrated in this chapter in four beneficial provisions from God for man. •First, the sabbath: the seventh day of the week was provided for the rest and comfort of man. •Second, the spouse: Eve, the first woman, was provided for the romance and companionship of man. •Third, the site: the Garden of Eden was provided for the residence and community of man. •Fourth, the statutes: the laws for the Garden of Eden were provided for the ruling and conduct of man.

Genesis 3Corruption. Here is recorded the fall of man when sin entered the human race. •Steps in the fall: it began by an attack upon the Word of God then by appeals to the appetite (“good for food”), advancement (“be as gods”), appearance (“pleasant to the eyes”), and acumen (“make one wise”). •Seeking after the fall: God in love and grace sought the fallen sinners. •Sentence for the fall: sorrow (mentioned three times), pain, hard life, and death—sin is full of appealing promises but only brings agonizing punishment. •Saving after the fall: seen in God clothing Adam and Eve with animal skins. •Settlement after the fall: man was removed from the Garden of Eden to a location east of Eden.

  1. The word genesis is the greek word γενεσις and it means birth.
God had a very special plan for Adam and Eve in Paradise.
God created man, the way He would have liked to be a man, if He was to become a man! [Genesis 3:8] “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the afternoon; and both Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of the garden”
God created man to be in His Image Nous (mind), Logos and Pneuma (spirit) in order to provide Adam and Eve everthing needed in order to know their God and creator personally! The Saints of the Greek Orthodox Church consider the Triad God to be a PERSON because He is known to talk to people like Moses and His Saints PERSON to person.
(The Symbol of Faith 325 AC /Triad God)

God created Adam and Eve in His Image ~Nous (mind) Logos and Pneuma~ in order to provide for them all the means by which they could get to know Him personally. When creating Adam and Eve God did not “impose” on them becoming His Likeness which describes ~a union with Him (Theosis/Holy)~ because Adam and Eve they were to achieve this on their own free will, only if they wanted to, only if they loved Him for Gods greaest gift to man was his freedom …the freedom to choose!
This type of obedience (to obey because we love Him) is the same type obedience we find for our Salvation (return to His presence) in the New Testament which is in essence is THE MEANING OF LIFE FOR ALL OF US! [John 14:2] “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him”
Being disobedient by first eating from the forbidden tree following by their refusal to repent are the events that caused the unfolding of cosmological events build within creation from the beginning that were to unfold manifesting the New Will of God for the Salvation of man in case of disobedience!
[Genesis 2 : 16-17] “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil– of it ye shall not eat, but in whatsoever day ye eat of it, ye shall surely die”. The death talked about here by God is of a spiritual nature meaning the eternal separation of man from God!
God no longer could fulfill his plan with Adam and Eve for it was no longer possible for them to part take with God (become His Likeness) being part takers with sin….any sin (disobedience)!
Later after their exile and the coming of our Lord we find out that the requirment for UNION with God (Salvation) is the same as it was in Paradise. Union with God (theosis) can only take place with a pure heart! [Matthew 5-8] “BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART- FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD”.
The HEART is in the center of man’s psychosomatic self however it is ill begotten. [Matthew 15-19] “FOR OUT OF THE HEART PROCEED EVIL THOUGHTS MURDERS ADULTERIES FORNICATIONS THEFTS FALSE WITNESS BLASPHEMIES” Furthermore vainglory, ego, envy, hatred, lustiness tinginess and greed are equally strong passions that siege the heart (self will) and force the mind (body) in the un natural act of SIN
After His Ascension to His Father Lord Jesus (God Logos) became the “head of the body the Church”.
A head, is a head of a body and a body belongs to a head in a way they are undivided. Lord Jesus/God Logos became the source (causation) of everything that that takes place in His Body the Church with His Holy Sacraments by becoming the High Priest.
By becoming High Priest and Mediador to His Father he enabld those baptized and receiving the Holy Spirit within TO BE REDEEMED FROM ALL SIN, to purify the heart (only God can forgive sins) and become MEMBERS OF A BODY [Α Colossians 1:18] “He is the head of his body, the Church; He is the source of the body’s life”
[1 Corinthians 3 :16] Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God”?
During Baptism a person receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit however it is up to each and every individual to energize them or set them in motion at will based on their greatest gift from God which is their freedom.
After Baptism the Mystery of Confession which is known as second Baptism keeps the pure heart condition enabling the Holy Spirit to make man His Temple needed for theosis which is the likeness of God and Salvation . (1 Corinthians 3 :16) Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God”?
Without Baptism as delivered by the Holy Spirit the day of Pentecost ( no redeeming from all sin) life after death conditions will remain the same as before the coming of Lord Jesus and the creation of His Church where there was no hope no Salvation! [Exodus 33:20] And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
Spiritual life (according to the experiences of the Saints) is not the learning of spiritual truths, but the union and relationship that mankind was made to have with God.
The term “Orthodox Psychotherapy” does not refer to specific cases of people suffering from psychological problems of neurosis. iI refers to people disabled from ever being able to having communion (PERSON to person) with God.
The Image and Likeness of God

    What Is the Orthodox Church?

    Did Moses really write Genesis?
    God bless
